Frequently Asked Questions

What is therapy?

Therapy is for people who feel “stuck” in their current situation and are ready to make some changes. Throughout life we can be presented with difficult circumstances – life transitions, divorce, death of a loved one, financial issues, job loss, difficulties relating to a spouse, children or other family members – which can lead to feelings of depression, anxiety or loneliness. When this happens, therapy can offer a comforting and supportive space to work through uncomfortable feelings. Clients can learn strategies to cope and to live a happy and more fulfilling life.

What are the benefits of therapy?

Some of the benefits of therapy include increased self-awareness, improved communication with loved ones, reduction in stress, increased strategies in dealing with life’s hardships, feeling understood without being judged and improved self-esteem.

What happens in a therapy session?

The initial intake usually takes about 50 minutes.  During the intake, questions are asked about the reasons that have brought a client into therapy.  Concerns and goals are discussed so that a path for treatment can be put into action. After the initial session, the client and therapist will determine whether weekly or bi-weekly sessions would be best for reaching treatment goals. Sessions last between 45-50 minutes. The goal of therapy is to help a client find the tools and strategies they need to move forward living their best life.
